Ayumi sat against a wall, looking up at the sky. She seemed to like looking at the sky, despite that anything interesting never happened. Ever since she escaped that orphange, she had to look for places to stay, but she never had any money, let alone had anyone to give her money to get her own place and she needed one badly.
If only someone would come along and offer me a place to stay until I found someplace, I would be happy. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Joshua walked through the streets, another day wasted looking for a job with no luck. He did accomplish one thing, though - he had scrounged up enough money to not only grab a night in a hotel, but buy a duel disk as well. He couldn't wait to try it out, but it seemed there weren't many people out who wanted to duel at the moment.
Turning the corner, he spotted a rather skinny-looking girl leaning against the wall, asleep. 'Ugh... another homeless... Well, I can't just leave her out here,' he thought to himself, walking up. "What are you doing out here? There's better places to sleep," he said, lightly shaking her shoulder to wake her up.

Ayumi woke up and looked around. After she saw who woke her up, she jumped up and stepped back a little. "Who are you?"
Now began her fear of meeting boys. She needed a place to stay, so she needed to overcome her fear, but it would be tough for her. She was tired and needed sleep and this guy could help her. In all her innocence, no one could tell what she did and maybe she could persuade this guy to help her somehow.

Joshua sighed, and crossed his arms. "Joshua, Josh, whatever you want to shorten it to. I might ask you the same question, though," he said. "Like I said, you do know there are better places to sleep, right? At least get under some sort of roof," he suggested, turning to walk away, but motioning for her to follow. Even though he wasn't a fan of most people, he could tell it would take some form of delicate touch with this one, so he couldn't be TOO harsh.

"My name is Ayumi and I'm an orphan." Ayumi answered. "I really don't have anywhere to stay." She looked at him as he began to walk away and then she saw his motion. She was hesitant at first, but then she decided to follow, but she stayed a safe distance away in case he tried something.
"Where are you taking me?" she asked.

"Well, all the more reason for you to come with me then. I got enough money for a hotel room for the night, and you're welcome to take the bed. I'm used to sleeping on the floor," he said. After a while of walking, the pair appeared in front of a run down motel. Joshua took a key out of his pocket, walked through the hallway, and eventually stopped and opened a door leading to a small, yet somewhat cozy room. "I'll go get some food, feel free to sleep all you want," he said, taking off back down the hall.

Ayumi walked in, shut the door and locked it. She turned to the bed, lied down and began to sleep. She certainly did seem to sleep a lot and yet she didn't know why, but she had always done this.
I'll eat after I'm done sleeping. Ayumi thought, as she drifted off to sleep. She usually slept 4 or 5 times a day and she only wanted to sleep once per day like normal people.

Joshua returned after a few hours, hands full with a few bags of different fruits and breads. He knocked on the door, not wanting to suddenly come in and scare her in case she had just gotten out of the shower or something. "It's me. Open up whenever you're ready," he said, and then sat up against the door, waiting for her to come and open the door.

Ayumi got up, walked to the door, unlocked it, and opened the door. "Oh, hey." she said, still wanting the sleep that she so desperately wanted. After she opened the door, she went back to lay down on the bed, closing her eyes quite quickly.
Ayumi soon drifted off to sleep. Now if someone knocked on the door, she wouldn't be able to answer it. She needed to try and get rid of sleeping a lot.

Joshua dropped the food off on the table located in the corner of the room, then looked at her and sighed, slightly smiling. 'She looks kind of cute like that... UGH, what am I thinking?' he thought, shaking his head. He then locked the door, pulled out a blanket and pillow from the closet, laid down next to the bed, and fell asleep as well.

Ayumi started to dream of things and lives she wished she had instead of the one she has. She could have been anything and she was an orphan. She might as well marry since she has no one to look after her and no one to tell her what to do, so anything is acceptable.....well, almost anything.
She also dreamed of her parents. What they may have looked like, how they might have dressed, all of it. Sub-consciously, she kept thinking they had something in store for her like a house, but wouldn't she have gotten it by now? Whatever the case may be, she still needed a place of her own.

Joshua woke up after a long time, back a bit stiff, but rested all the same. 'Wonder how she's doing...' he thought, getting up and looking at the clock. They didn't have long before he had to clear out the room, so he shook Ayumi awake. "Hurry up, we gotta eat and get going before they kick us out," he said, grabbing the food out of the bags and stuffing some down his throat.

Ayumi woke up quickly. "What?" she asked. It was clear she wasn't ready to wake up. She then saw Josh wolfing down food. She got up, grabbed some food and began eating, but at her own pace. She didn't want to have it come back out, so she did this to prevent that. She looked at him and wondered why he was in a hurry, but she decided to ask after she was done eating.

Joshua finished after about 15 minutes, and looked at the clock again. "45 minutes to go, I'll start cleaning up," he said, throwing away his trash and beginning to clean up the beds and table. After a bit of that, he clapped his hands together. "Alright, all done. I'll be out front when you're done, make sure you're out in 30 minutes, that's the time they gave me to clear out," he said.

Ayumi nodded to show she understood. After 20 minutes, she was done eating and she threw away her trash. She walked out, and met Josh out front, wondering where he would take her next. It seemed like a date, but she knew he was being nice, however, other people would not know that and she wouldn't be able to work up the courage to speak.

Joshua looked around, having completely no idea what he was going to do with his new companion. "Well... what now? I don't have any more money, so I don't know what to do now," he sighed, pulling his duel disk out of his bag and attaching it to his arm, hoping to attract a duelist so he would have something to do.

Ayumi looked at the weird thing he had. So, this guy duels. she thought. Too bad, I don't have my deck ready.
"That's a duel disk." she said, thinking of when she would get one of her own. She went to check it out since it looked cool. "I need one of those. Where do you get them?"

"Oh, this?" Joshua said, holding up his duel disk. "There was a store I bought it from, if you have enough money I can take you there," he offered. "So you duel, huh? What kind of deck do you use?" he asked, pulling out his own and flipping through it, checking to make sure nothing was missing.

Ayumi looked down. "I don't have any money." she said, softly. "I don't have a deck right now." She was now really sad. Everyone had money and it seemed like she was the only one without money.

Joshua blushed slightly, but quickly shook that away, and softly said, "Well, uh, I-i'll help you get some if you want. I mean, I don't have anything better to do..." He was still attempting to sound tough, but it was obvious he was afraid he had hurt her feelings. "I... I got a hiding place with a bit of money... I guess I can give you some..." he said, avoiding eye contact.

"May you buy me a duel disk, please?" Ayumi asked in her sweetest voice. "I'm probably the only one who doesn't have a duel disk."
She then noticed him avoiding eye contact. "What's wrong?"

Joshua blushed a bit again at the tone of her voice, but coughed and said, "U-um... sure, I guess..." Then when she asked why he was avoiding eye contact his face flushed pure red and his head snapped up. "N-nothing! No, nothing's wrong, what made you think that! Let's just go get you that duel disk," he hurriedly said, walking rather quickly down the street.

"You weren't making eye contact and you were looking away." Ayumi replied, as she hurried to catch up. She then, unconsciously, wrapped her arms around him, something she didn't know about and wouldn't know about.

Joshua stopped when he felt her hug him, having never felt that before. He had never let anyone get that close to him, but for some reason, he had the feeling that she wasn't a bad person, so he let her. He then slowly turned to look at her. "U-um... well, uh... let's just go get that duel disk," he said, and then pointed into the alley. "My money's in there, hidden behind a loose brick in the wall. No one's found it yet," he said, but he was afraid to move in case he made her trip and fall since she was clinging to him.

Ayumi still had her arms around Josh as she waited for him to start leading her to his money so a duel disk could be purchased. She wanted a duel disk badly so once she got her very own deck, she could start dueling. She had seen duelists too many times to forget the rules of dueling. She then looked at Josh. "Maybe when I get my own deck, we can duel sometime." she said. "It should be fun."

Joshua figured she wasn't letting go, so he sighed and slowly walked into the alley. He counted the bricks, and when he had reached the right one, he pulled out the brick and reached in. When he pulled his hand out, there was a decent-sized amount of cash in his hand. He counted it, and then looked at Ayumi. "Oh look... there's just enough," he said, mouth twitching slightly, obviously trying to smile. However, it had been so long, the most he could do was smirk.

Ayumi looked at the money, reaching for it. She wouldn't know if he would hand it to her or if he would keep it until the duel disk was purchased. It was still a good thing to try, at least.

Joshua hesitated, but eventually gave in and handed her the money. He was practically giving it to her anyway, and he had the feeling she wouldn't run off with it. "The store's this way... let's go," he said, leading her out of the alley and down the street again.

Ayumi followed this guy all around the city. She felt like she had earned his trust by not running off with the money and so she stayed by his side as he led her to the store.
"How far is the store?" Ayumi asked. She was getting tired of walking and if was a somewhat far walk, she would ask to be carried.

Joshua pointed down the road. "It's about half a mile more down this way," he said. He was rather happy that she hadn't run off with his money, so he was in a bit more cheery mood.
